Writing: Working My Fingers To the Bone
Working my fingers to the bone…
Whenever I’ve heard that expression I’ve always had an image of fingers feverishly working to complete some unknown task. The faster the fingers worked the more transparent the skin became until gradually there was nothing left but bone clicking madly to complete the task.
This week has flown by! It has been extremely busy. The past several weeks I’ve been working on a research paper for one of my classes. My fingers have been getting their fair share of exercise (even if I haven’t worked them to the bone) and I cannot complain. I believe I did an excellent job with my research paper. I completed it yesterday. Now that my research paper is completed I’m back on schedule for writing articles and later this afternoon I’ll get back into writing for my blogs. I’m working on my degree in Traditional Naturopathy at times it can be challenging juggling everything. I’m a single mom, business owner, freelance writer, and as if that wasn’t enough I made the decision to compete in amateur Figure competition this year. Yes I’m busy but I cannot imagine life any other way. I enjoy staying busy and make sure I take plenty of time to rest.
Marinated Posts
I have several posts that I have started and I’ll go back and put the final touches on them over the next few days. I’ve learned whether I don’t feel as though I’ve written everything within a post I’ll hold off on publishing it or I’ll create a series.
Another Freelance Writing Job
It looks like I will beat December’s freelance writing earnings. Over the past few weeks I’ve applied for a few freelance writing positions. Where do I find my leads? I’ve listed them on my freelance writing jobs page. I have more to add to the list.
Regarding the jobs, I’ve applied for I’ve heard back from every one of them. This last position is another technology position although I wouldn’t necessarily classify it as a technical writing position. The potential is great I’ll receive a flat fee along with a % of page views. I like the fact that I’m getting paid and can continue to make money off the articles I’ve written. I’m looking forward to this opportunity, and I know it will help enhance my writing after all the more hits my articles receive the more I get paid. This is something I do on my personal blogs already. I check the stats of my posts to see what type of impact it receives.
FlexTime: I’m on a Schedule
Due to the increase in my writing assignments I decided to put my freelance writing assignments on a schedule. I’m now using FlexTime. FlexTime is an software application developed for Mac users. I use a 17″ Macbook Pro. It’s made by the same developer of Mars Edit. I’m really enjoying this handy application. Once I’ve have free time I’ll be writing a review about this application. The first review I write will be for one of the websites where I now blog. I’ll be sure to post the link.
Even though I haven’t been writing as much online I’m still writing daily and no I’m not working my fingers to the bone.

I can feel your pain on the research paper! Don’t you feel like the master of the universe when you finish, though (I do)?
I’m glad to hear that the bony bits of your fingers are still under the skin
I’m going to look into that scheduler thingy. It sounds like something I could put to good use.
Hi Opal - I like the way you call them marinated posts. That’s a really cool way to describe them.
Well done on finishing your paper. And congratulations on the new writing gigs. It’s great that you’ll get paid per page view on top of fees. You could earn money off work like that for years to come.
Hi Opal,
Congrats on the new freelance writing jobs! Woo Hoo for you! Congrats on finishing your paper, too. Whew. You have a LOT going on! I don’t know how you do it all…
Smiles,
Michele
Back again… Perhaps when your fingers have rested, you can participate in this meme I’m tagging you for.

RLD,
It was a major accomplishment. Whee!
It felt great to finish that research paper.
CatherineL,
I’ve been using that term for years much before I started blogging three years ago. It seems appropriate. As long as I stay with the blogging I can when I leave the money stops.
Michele,
Yes, I do I’ve been putting myself on a schedule. It’s been hard to squeeze everything in, but thankfully I’m managing. I’ll try to complete the meme this weekend.
Samantha,
Thanks! I enjoy it immensely. Thanks for stopping by my virtual home.
Wow - I am impressed. When I was doing my naturopathy degree I certainly wouldn’t have been able to find the time for freelancing!
Writing is good–if you can get paid for it. I enjoy writing, but I can’t stand being broke while working so hard. Thats my take on ie
