Scheduling Time For Blogging: How Hard Can It Be?
Over the past few weeks I’ve realized that I need to put my personal websites on a schedule. How many websites do I have? Twelve that doesn’t count the ones that haven’t gone live.
When it comes to my clients, I follow a schedule. This insures their work is completed in a timely manner. Why am I not following a schedule with my personal websites? In order for them, to generate additional income I realize changes are needed. No, I’m not going to take away time from my clients; however, some of my free online time will be devoted to adding content to my existing website.
A few of my websites are monetized. I make around $100 weekly via adsense, and I know I can make a lot more. Initially, I had placed adsense on Addicted to Writing but after a few days I decided to pull those ads. Why? I didn’t like how they looked on this website. Perhaps later I’ll change my mind but for now they have been yanked. Freelance writing is a business. If you aren’t treating it like one, I would suggest you start.
Eventually, I might add sponsors that I believe will enhance this website but for now my main focus at the moment is building content, learning, and networking. Since I realize the importance of adding content to my websites, I know I need to stop making excuses. Starting today I’m on a schedule.Lillie of A Writer’s Words, An Editor’s Eye tagged me in her post tips for better blogging as I was writing this post I realized that if you have multiple websites these are tips that can be used to improve your blogging. Putting my personal blogs on a schedule will help me become a better blogger.
Scheduling Time For My Websites
- Web Posting Schedule - Each day I’ll devote at least an hour for writing content for one of my existing websites (some days I’ll post on two blogs.) It can be any website that I want, as long as I don’t repeat, but I have to write something. The great thing is I’ll continually add content to my websites even if it’s on a weekly basis. This will increase the amount of passive income I make online. If I feel that I can do more during that hour. I will but that post will be scheduled for advanced posting. Yet, another reason I love WordPress. There are so many cool features. I’ve used Blogger, LiveJournal, and Typepad none of them offered me the same amount of flexibility as I have hosting WordPress through my web service provider.
- Affiliate Marketing - I will create informative pages that talk about the affiliates I’m associated with. I have already written about my affiliates but at the moment it’s within posts.
- Network - I comment on a lot of blogs; however, I normally use Vegan Momma and recently I started using Addicted to Writing, when appropriate I will link to my other websites.
- Hiring Writers - Realizing that I cannot possibly maintain my websites the way that I want I will be hiring writers for my websites.

I’m kind of new to this whole thing, but I’m trying to make the best use I can out of the free resources on the internet. I have a little web site on Google Pages that needs some love , my LJ, and that’s it
It sounds like Wordpress is some quality stuff - I’ll have to check that out!
Thanks for the tag, Opal! I’ve enjoyed reading this post and I agree with you that it makes such a huge difference when the blogger actually reads - and comments to - the reader’s thoughts.
Great tips!
Now… I’ll have to see what I can share!
Smiles,
Michele
Hi Opal - Smart move removing the adsense from this site - especially if you are going to showcase some of your work on it. No adsense will make it appear much more professional.
To answer your question - I am still trying to plan how to improve my websites this year - especially my blogs. I need to learn a lot more about wordpress as I should be using a customised header and more pictures.
Good Evening,
Thanks for the tag! I discovered your blog about two weeks ago and I really enjoy reading the posts…they give me a lot to think about. I’m trying to devote more attention to my websites. I enjoy blogging, but my web copy assignments keep me busy and I tend to neglect blogging. I’m making it a goal to post at least three times a week.
I finally finished my post: http://writingthecyberhighway.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-blog-cyber-highway.html
Thanks for the tag!
I have mixed feelings about Adsense. I decided that I wouldn’t put it on my portfolio sites, but I would put it on my blogs. There are ways to monetize the site without putting Adsense, though - like with Amazon, Chitika, or Kontera.
It’s smart to have a schedule - otherwise blogs and websites get ignored. And once that happens, readership drops off.
RLD,
I really enjoy WordPress I was sold the moment I tried it out. I haven’t looked back.
Michele,
Thanks for participating. I’ll be by to comment later today.
CathernineL,
The more I thought about it the more I was thinking why am I placing competing ads on my business website? It didn’t make sense. That is why I removed them.
Valencia,
I’m glad you get something out of them. I wasn’t sure how to write when I started this website so I decided to write what was on my mind. As my skills improve and I have numerous assignments under my belt I’ll write more from a freelance writing perspective but for now it’s mainly from my business and blogging experience.
Katherine,
I use Amazon within the posts. Eventually I’ll add Amazon search to the sidebar but for now I’ll just link within my posts. Amazon does well for me. Counting all my websites I make money using Amazon on a daily basis. On my third day blogging on Addicted to Writing I made money using Amazon.
I have tried Kontera and Chitika on my main website, but I didn’t like them too much so those were tossed.
Thanks so much for stopping by my website.
