Reading, Writing, And Hanging Out With My Daughter
When your daughter says, “When are you going to hang out with me mommy?” You know it’s time to take a step back and relax for a moment. Today we are going to a reading circle at Lifeway afterwards we are going to Chuck E. Cheese. Aiyana has been looking forward to “our time” all week and to be honest so have I. I spend time with her throughout the day, but today it’s different we are only going places that she wants to visit.
It will be nice to take a break from my creating & shipping products and of course I’ll be taking a tiny break from freelance writing to hang with my favorite person on the planet, my daughter.
Earlier today I ordered the book Writers Market 2008. I saw last years book so I decided to get the new edition. It’s 1,170 page! Amazon has it on sale for 34% of the regular price so I’m only paying $19.79 for it. That’s a good deal. All the client’s I’ve acquired have been through my main website, Vegan Momma and my business. Here’s an excerpt about the book.
The 2008 Writer’s Market features all the great information writers have to come to expect for more than 80 years and then some. This edition takes Writer’s Market to a new level of excellence with high profile author interviews and five new market sections. Of course, it’s still packed with all the information writers rely on year after year including the keys to successful query letters, advice on how much to charge, articles from successful writers, as well as listings for book publishers, magazines, literary agents and more!”
Freelance Writing Goals
Since I started freelance writing I’ve set a few goals for myself that I’m hoping to achieve. I have made short-term and long term goals. I’ll be writing about my goals in an upcoming post and outlining how I plan to achieve them. Writers Market was something I definitely wanted to purchase since one of my short-term goals is to be published in a magazine.
I’m not waiting for a “magic moment” to start working on achieving some of my goals. I’m working towards achieving them now. As with anything I’ve researched freelance writing throughly. I still have a lot to learn but guess what I’m doing it. I’m enjoying the process. It’s great to tackle something “new”. I received the book The Renegade Writers: Query Letters That Rock and I’m really enjoying the book. I most likely will have a chance to read it when we are at Chuck E. Cheese today.
Initially, Aiyana likes mommy playing with her but then she ditches me to play game with other kids. Of course, I’m in the background watching to make sure she is ok.

Hi Opal - I love the new site. Congratulations.
CatherineL,
Thanks! On my main website, I have the link for Addicted To Writing tucked away in the sidebar. I haven’t linked to it directly (at least not yet.) I have dropped a link into an old post that I had already created, lol.;-)
I think I’m also going to order the new Writer’s Market. I still have the 2006 edition, so I have to go online and make sure that the editor’s contact information is the same. It has been my goal to become a regular magazine writer for years. I’ve been published in two print publications, but that was two years ago. Writing web content keeps me busy, but I’m ready to tap into higher paying markets. I’ve made it a goal to query at least one magazine market a week. Hope it works!

Valencia,
Wow, that’s great!
I’m going to send a few query letters to local newspapers this month. I’m just learning about query letters. I had never heard of them until about three weeks ago.
I just signed up for the online Writers Market. I can try it out for 30 days free. I imagine the information will be more up-to-date than the book; however, I do want a hard copy also. Even in our modern age I like having books that I can physically hold.
Oh, honey, I know how you feel. I actually sat down and spent a bunch of time just hanging out with The Loudest Member Of The Household today. He’s a pretty cool guy, if a little short. And speaking of WM08, my oldest found it in my bedroom (isn’t that sexy?) and said, “Mummy, is this the biggest book in the world?”
Naomi,
That made me laugh! My daughter is the loudest member in my house. When she wants to be heard usually when I’m working, she will serenade me.
I love big books I do have a few that top WMO8. When I receive WM08 I have a feeling I’ll be taking a lot of time flipping through it. I love books!
Thanks for stopping by.
