Freelance writing; Trying to get my groove back

Just as Stella got her groove back at times, I need to go out and reclaim my writing groove. Yesterday I was trying to think of the best way to start writing an article; nothing came to me. Have you ever been there? Instead of wasting my time worrying about that, I wrote the middle and the end and then came back with a great idea for the beginning. That usually works by the time I’ve gotten my groove on I usually have a perfect beginning.

What if it doesn’t work? At times, it doesn’t work and when that happen I’ve found picking up a book about the topic or chatting with a few friends and acquaintances that are in the same field as myself will get those juices flowing and off I go to put those thoughts down on paper.

Do you write for page views or are you writing from the heart?

Interesting title, right? It popped in my mind while I was cruising one of my favorite spots on the cyber highyway, Michele is a amazing freelance writer and she wrote a post titled Writing From Our Hearts, it’s an excellent read and it was one of those posts that made me think about something that has been on my mind for a little while. Towards the end of my last post I wrote…

I wish more people (website owners) realized in order to be an authority on a topic at times it’s more than the traffic it comes down to the knowledge and quality of the writing otherwise, you are just another site who’s only focus is traffic.

Of course, I was writing about a personal incident. Let’s just say in freelance writing I’ve worked with people who actually believe it is all about page views, not surprisingly this attitude shows up in their writing since it’s obvious the ones I’ve observed don’t know what they are writing about. They aren’t familiar with the subject at all and it shows. At least research before you write about it. It’s so they obvious that they are writing about the topic to get hits. That is so wrong.

I firmly believe that writing quality posts are more important than the traffic that you bring in. Sure if your website is online to make money marketing will be a very close second. However, if your focus is writing articles; eventually, the traffic will come. Of course, you have to market yourself correctly. The fact that some people don’t get that what you write is a reflection of yourself amazes me. I mean how can they not get that?
