Offline Blog Editors: Are You Using One?
All right admit it! Some of you are addicted to blogging. It’s ok! I’m right there with you. I find that it is a great way to interact with others. You can write about a variety of topics, build a friendly community, create niche websites, or create online private journals.
Yesterday I wrote how I was putting all my blogs on a schedule. Even though I wrote that post I was dreading actually getting this completed. Why? I don’t like being online to create posts. I’d rather accomplish this offline. With twelve blogs I find, at times, I’m online more than I want to be.
A few hours after I created that post I braced myself for updating my blogs. Honestly it wasn’t something I was looking forward to completing. You see I had finally reached the point where I had enough of updating blogs the old way. I decided it was time that I started looking for a Mac compatible offline blog editor. As much as I love WordPress I dislike writing my posts online. I’d rather complete this task offline.
MarsEdit: The Search Is Over
After a quick search and reviewing the different offline editors available for the Mac user I discovered MarsEdit. I’m loving this software. I was able to post on six blogs yesterday courtesy of this offline editor, and the beauty of it is I didn’t have to keep logging into my various blogs. Those simple actions add up quickly. MarsEdit lets you try out their product free for thirty days. The software is fully functional.
I’m very happy with MarsEdit I had been using Scrivener for my blog posts however now that I have MarsEdit Scrivener is left for my freelance writing assignments and the book I’m writing.
As I was writing this post, I thought it would be a great idea to include additional offline blog editors. Everyone is not on a Mac.
Windows Operating System - Offline Blog Editors
If you are using Windows, check out Windows Live Writer or Scribefire. I do have a Windows computer an HPdv600t but I rarely work on it. I bought the computer for a client who required me to do work with Windows applications. I didn’t want to add Windows to my 17″ MacBook Pro so I purchased a separate computer.
Aiyana, my daughter, has claimed the HP computer and has nicknamed it “Zizzy”. She’s homeschooled, and some of her lessons are completed on “Zizzy”. I have no idea how she came up with that name. Anyway if you’re on the Windows Operating System check out one of the offline blog editors I mentioned. One of my blog buddies uses Windows Live Writer for all his blog posts.
If you’re like myself and don’t want to add Windows to your Mac you can still send documents using the Windows format however, you will need to install NeoOffice. I have it and have sent it to those on Windows OS without any problems. I rarely use it, but it’s there when needed.
Linux Operating System - Offline Blog Editors
If you are using, Linux check out Bleezer I don’t know too much about it if you use it let me know how you like it.
Blogger - Offline Blog Editor
Blogger doesn’t see to work with many of the blog editors on the market, however; you can still take advantage using blog-gears you will need install Google Gears to take advantage of blog-gears.
Offline blog editors can eliminate the time you spend blogging and the beauty of it is if you cannot connect to the internet you can still create your posts and submit once you are able to go online.
Question: Are you using an offline blog editor. Which one? How do you like it?

Opal,
I use BlogDesk in Windows and am very happy with it.
I know that Microsoft Word ‘07 works as an offline blog editor, but I’m too lazy to set it up. I work on a very well cooled Windows PC, so I’m not too worried about leaving it on all day
I’ve done a little bit of work on Qumana. It’s not bad, but I’m always on the lookout for something better.
My problem is that I work on multiple computers throughout the day (one of the curses of not being able to afford to write full time (yet)). I do a lot of my blog work on Google Docs. It doesn’t post for me, and it’s not the most ideal solution, but at least I can get to it during my lunch break.
Lillie,
I think I’ve heard of that before. I’m glad you like it.
RLD,
My MacBook Pro stays on most of the day the cooling is not the issue. I just don’t like working online (internet) all day, lol. I’d prefer doing my work offline. I’m on the computer just not on the internet.
Jim Smoot,
That would make it challenging working on multiple computers. I have heard of Google docs I don’t know too much about it.
I just log in and blog. Perhaps this will change when the amount of blog posts increases and that simple task adds up to too much time wasted.
Ok, if you insist… I’ll admit it… I’m addicted to blogging!
Thanks for this very informative post, Opal!
Smiles,
Michele
A Macbook - I am in computer envy! I’ve never gotten the opportunity to use a Mac, but I’m sure that their laptops kick windows laptops’ butts. Mainly because my Toshiba laptop starts overheating in about 5 hours.
I myself was running 5 blogs at one time and the time it took was crazey not that I even had time being a full time college student. But I probably would still have them if I new about this software…. I might try to open up a couple more thank you a bunch!
Ian
Need to check it out… I am using Windows Live Writer and I like spell check (English is not my native ) but I hate that it re compresses images for no reason
