Conquering Writer’s Block

The past few days I had a few articles that were near completion but for some reason I convinced myself that I couldn’t complete them.  That’s self-fulfilling prophecy! Every time I looked at these articles I became frustrated. I didn’t want to touch them so I avoided them at all cost. Early this morning I awoke and realized in order to get past this obstacle I had to meet it head on. One of the ways I manage to get the creativity flowing was to do additional research on the topic.

These are topics I know extremely well. I’ve been reading about them for years. I’m back in school receiving my Masters on this very subject for goodness sake! Why in the world did I make it so difficult? In my case, I was thinking of other things when my focus should have been on making the final touches on those articles. Realizing what I was doing I simply stopped doing it I directed my focus to completing those articles. It worked!

What lesson did I learn? If I tell myself I cannot possibly complete an article I won’t at least not with that attitude.

Opal - I know the feeling. I’ve seen myself sitting with a dozen half finished blog posts many times, because I wanted to move on to something more interesting.

Have you read The Artists Way by Julia Cameron? It has some great articles for helping you overcome writers block.

Catherine,
It is a frustrating feeling, and something I don’t experience often.

I’ve never heard of the book, but I’m going to order it. I know it will come in handy especially now since I’m freelance writing. I have to get things completed. Thanks so much for the recommendation it looks like a wonderful book. I love the cover art. It’s lovely. I’m ordering the hardcover version.
By the way, you’ve been added as one of the business coaches. A lot of what you write about can be applied to freelance writing also.
