Addicted To Books & Addicted To Reading

There has hardly been a day that has gone by when I haven’t read something. I’m addicted to reading, writing, and books. I have an old copy of Shakespeare dating back to the 1700’s also I have and old book of poetry. I believe it was published in 1742. Those are two of my most cherished possessions.

Exactly How Many Bookshelves Do I Need?

I have three eight-foot bookshelves in my home, and however they cannot hold all the books I own. I need to purchase additional bookshelves. I’ve been seriously thinking of turning a room into a library. I would add soft lighting (I love candlelight), cozy chairs, and perhaps a desk? I can see it now. It would be my place to get away.

When I was in college there were times when I would turn down a date because I didn’t want to put a book down? When that happened I would contact my date in advance and reschedule. I didn’t do it often.

Another Excuse Reason to Purchase Books

Of course freelance writing, my new venture, has given me an excuse to purchase more books. Yeah that’s what I need another reason to buy more books! In the past few weeks I’ve purchased fifteen books. I imagine can add those books to my library, right? Trust me this is nothing compared to the books I have about alternative healing, herbs, fitness, and nutrition. The books I have on those subjects rank in the hundreds. It has definitely come in handy for some of my projects. I refer to them often. I’m thinking of purchasing The Chicago Manual of Style but after that I won’t purchase anymore books, on writing, for a while.

My Latest Purchase

Woe is I by Patricia O’Conner, is my latest purchase. I ordered it an hour ago. I’m an Amazon Prime member. I should be receiving it early next week. Why the purchase? I wanted another grammar book. I’ve read positive reviews about this book so I’ve decided to try it out for myself.I know I could get my books from the library but, for me, it’s not the same thing as owning them. I enjoy that if needed I always have them. If these books are anything like the ones, I already have. I’ll keep referring to them for years to come after all I am addicted to reading.

Oh man, I’m in total book envy! The only chance I get to read things in English is online, heh. I have a grand total of about 10 books with me at school, 9 of which are textbooks. One day, I hope to have a decent collection (and a place to put it ;) ).

RLD,
I’m a book collector. I have numerous old books. There’s something about opening a book that was published hundreds of years ago that transports me to another time. My father gave me Shakespeare and the poetry book. I guess he felt they were mine since I had read those books as a child. I still remember the excitement I felt when I discovered those old books. I read Shakespeare when I was eight years old. The poetry book when I was ten.

I hope you have a decent collection also. I keep adding to mine, lol.

I’ve always loved books too. Sounds like you have a great collection! I’ve always wanted a library in my home as well. Wouldn’t it be grand?

Here’s to lots of books, lots of reading, and a fantabulous library/study you can call your own!

Smiles,
Michele

Hi Opal - It sounds like you’re as big a book junky as me.

I used to hoard them. Then they were taking over the house, so I started selling them on Amazon and Ebay after I’d read them. But, doing this just encouraged me to buy more and more.

So earlier this year they’d piled up again, and I got rid of them.

Now, I just keep a selection of non-fiction books that I refer back to most.

Michele,
It would be great! Last year I read a book, cannot remember the name offhand, one of the characters had a library in her home. When her niece saw it, she was in heaven. :-)

Catherine,
Yes, I do love my books and I go back to them continually. They are one of my most prized possessions. Funny thing, not everyone feels that way about books but I do. :-)

Tell me about it. I would always opt for a copy that I’d owned over a copy that I got from a library. For me, if I got a copy from a library I wouldn’t really get into it as much as I would if I owned it.

And like you said… You can always refer to it years later
